Hat tree

A tree with a straight trunk and more or less smooth bark, with a slightly pyramidal crown that grows to a height of 7-10 metres. New branches are felt-like. Its leaves are usually lobed, with a bare upper surface and a felt-like underside. The 8 to 10 cm long bell-shaped flowers are felt-like and pink in colour and appear in axillary clusters.

These plants are resistant to cold weather, as long as it is not too intense.

Used as an ornamental tree. The wood was used by Australian Aborigines to make shields.
