Spanish dagger, Adam’s needle

The genus Yucca comprises about 40 species native to Southern North America. The Spanish Dagger is quite hardy and can be grown in Central European gardens.

The white, bell-shaped flowers open on summer evenings giving out a strong perfume. The fertilization of this plant is brought about by a llittle white moth in North America. In areas where the moth is not common, as here, the fruit appears only seldom.
