Peacock flower, Red bird of paradise

This beautiful shrub (2,5 m) is widely grown in the tropics and subtropics.

Prominent are the double pinnate leaves and the beautiful scarlet red and golden flowers on the terminal shoot in autumn. Red filaments and pistil protrude from the flower and later flat pods are developed. It is recommended to scarify the seeds and incubate them in warm water before sowing. The whole genus is not hardy.
