Old man of the Andes

There are about 6-8 species of Oreocereus, some of them growing 3000 – 4000 metres above sealevel, which means that they can endure frost to a certain degree. This one forms stout columns up to 1 m in height, with hairy white areoles and stiff red thorns. It bears rose-coloured flowers in summer.
