Flame tree

A slowly growing East Australian Tree (up to 30 m) with maple like foliage that prefers acidic soil.

It flowers lavishly red late in spring, just when the leaves have been cast of. The flowers lack petals but have an ornamental, bright red, bell-shaped calyx.

The seed pods look like wooden ships and are used for decoration.
