Dutchman’s pipe, Calico flower

Ornamental vine with peculiar purple-mottled flowers emanating a foul odour. The Dutchman’s Pipe exploit flies for pollination by deceptively attracting them to what appears to be a site suitable for laying eggs. The flowers imitate odour and colour of rotting meat. The flies are trapped by special hairs and released again after pollination and vanishing of the blossom.
