With your donations you financed the planting of local trees on the 10th of March in the Barranco del Infierno,  Orotava Valley. In doing so, you contributed not only to preservation of the biological diversity and functions of this area, but also to active climate protection. Mixed natural forests are the largest terrestrial CO2 reservoirs and also a habitat for innumerable species.

From the end of April it is being created  with over 1,300 kilos of sand. This year, mainly brown and white sand has been collected from the National Park Cañadas to “paint” the image.

On June 2nd, the  “carpet” will be ready for the procession!

Since the year 1912,  on the town square, an 900 m²-large image is created with over 2000 kilograms of different coloured Teide sands.

The creation of this years image has already begun. A tarpaulin is stretched over the court to protect the image from the rain during the work. The progress can already be admired from the upper part of the Town Hall steps by the public.

The plaza measures 46.5 metres x 10.50 metres, with a total surface of 950 square metres, and 912 metres of usable space. Materials used to make this magnificent carpet are chiefly collected from the volcanic region of Las Cañadas, and the sands’ colours are all totally natural. Some sand is sifted in situ if possible and brought down from Teide almostready for use, the rest is brought down in chunks  that have to be ground and pounded before they can be sifted finely enough for the carpets.
